Listen Up! Exposing Noise Exposure in Construction

Hearing loss is permanent and has direct impact on workers’ quality of life. Occupational exposure to noise in construction is underrecognized. To raise awareness and provide construction employers with tools to address this hazard, OSHA created and implemented ListenUp! – a unique social media initiative with customizable educational materials. During this session, OSHA officials will discuss how the agency designed and conducted the social media initiative and created related resources, including toolbox talks and a customizable noise hazard training presentation. You’ll learn about the essential take-aways embedded in the initiative’s messaging, including the negative impacts of noise, recognition of loud environments, noise reduction techniques, hearing protection selection and fitting, and ensuring hearing protection works. You’ll hear outcomes and take part in a discussion on use and best practices for continued awareness efforts on noise exposure in construction.
