Solutions for Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs): A review of the impact of MSD Solutions Lab Research to Solutions Grant Projects

As an outcome of the MSD Solutions Lab Research to Solutions (R2S) grants, grantees have examined various topics related to MSD solutions and technology. These grants invited academic institutions, businesses, and industries to innovate new solutions for MSDs, focusing on occupational injury risk reduction that can be seamlessly integrated across a range of sectors and workplaces. R2S grantees supported research on: Machine learning and artificial intelligence-based biomechanical exposure assessments. Evaluation of an augmented reality-based visualization and optimization tool in work zones to assess real-time object placement. Development of a non-invasive lower back injury risk assessment using a smartphone motion capture system with machine learning and musculoskeletal modeling. Feasibility of utilizing arm support exoskeletons for overhead construction tasks and evaluation of the impact on musculoskeletal health.
