From Skepticism to Credibility: Dale Carnegie Guidelines on Developing Trust Beyond Authority
Trust can’t be assumed – it must be earned. Safety professionals face various situations that demand people have trust in them. At times, they’re working with employees over a long period of time, so that trust must be sustained. Other times, they’re visiting remote sites with people who aren’t involved with them as much, and have to quickly present themselves in a manner to gain trust. In this session, we’ll discuss why many employees are skeptical of anyone in a management role. Some have been burned in the past by individuals in these role. Others have seen questionable motives/actions that appear to be self-centered. And some have faced dishonesty and inconsistencies that erode their level of trust. The value of the message of safety is either enhanced or reduced by a leader’s level of trustworthiness. You’ll learn why position and authority are not enough – you must earn trust.
