Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death at work and a leading cause of nonfatal injuries. A potential hazard facing workers who drive is impairment caused by the use of cannabis . One in 10 U.S. workers report using cannabis in the past 30 days. It’s the second most common substance linked to impaired driving, after alcohol. Cannabis use can inhibit safe driving because it slows reaction time, impairs coordination and distorts perception. The introduction of recreational cannabis is associated with more crash deaths. In this session, we’ll review the effects of cannabis use on driver safety and what safety professionals can do to help reduce risk
