Safety Culture: What It is, What It is Not and How to Create It
Approved 1
Culture is a powerful force, which shapes and influences behaviors at all levels. The question is: what exactly is it? In short, it is NOT the “noise” you hear, but it IS the “silences” that you don’t hear or see. The workshop will take an in-depth look at the safety culture, how it is systematically created, how it affects safety performance, describe the ‘types’ of culture and how it is measured. It will also identify 4 ‘states’ of ‘paralysis’ that plague companies today: the paralysis of fear, paralysis of protection, the paralysis of pretention and the paralysis of atrophy. Many organizations don’t know in which of these cultural "states" they operate, and how they define the “unwritten rules” of the organization.
