Over the past five years, conversations about workplace mental health have accelerated across the globe. Discussions about the concept of psychological safety have increased in popularity, and political and social views of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessability and belonging have become more prominent. These and other contemporary ideas have caused the safety community to re-assess the implications of issues associated with non-physical hazards. This workshop will delve into the root cause of psychologically unsafe environments: the existence of psychosocial hazards. Conversations will include raising awareness of the impact of the mental health crisis in the United States and discussing the differences and similarities between these concepts. We’ll have a detailed discussion of psychosocial hazards, where they come from and some strategies to address them.
